Common/Arabic Names of Tajweed Rules

When you come across any tajweed rules, and the sound of the rules are similar to the ones that you already know, then inshaAllah they might be the same rules. Don't fret about it. He he he...Below are only examples I am sharing with you. Believe me, there are many more spellings unmatched out there. He he he.

IZHAR = ETH'HAR

IDGHAM = EDGAM

IQLAB = EKLAB

IKHFA' = EKHFA

GHUNNAH = GONNA

and the list goes on (list will be updated as we progress to new lesson)

Don't worry, we're not here to memorize the various names but to understand the rules and how to incorporate them while reading the Quran. InshaAllah!

Arabic Names of Rules
  1. Madiya Letters = Mad Tabie/Mad Asli
  2. Izhar Halqi = the letter Nun is pronounced clearly
  3. Izhar Mutlaq = exception of Nun Sakina followed by Idgham letters but has to pronounced Nun clearly
  4. Idgham (with Ghunnah) = Idgham BiGhunnah/Idgham MaƔlGhunnah
  5. Idgham (without Ghunnah) = Idgham BiLaGhunnah
  6. Ikhfa' Haqiqi = Nun Sakina rule followed by Ikhfa' Nun Sakina letters
  7. Nasalisation = Ghunnah/Dengung
  8. Idgham Mithamaslain = Mim Sakina rule followed by Mim
  9. Ikhfa' Syafawi = Mim Sakina rule followed by Ba
  10. Izhar Syafawi = Mim Sakina rule followed by other letters besides Mim and Ba
  11. Alif Lam Shamsiah = Idgham Lam Sakina
  12. Alif Lam Qamariah = Izhar Lam Sakina
  13. Jawfiya Letters = Letters of Oral Cavity 
  14. Halkiya Letters = Letters of the Throat
  15. Lahawiya Letters = Letters of the Tongue (Far Tongue)
  16. Thajariya Letters = Letters of the Tongue (Middle Tongue)
  17.  Letters of the Tongue (Tongue Sides) = No Arabic Name
  18. Thalakiya Letters = Letters of the Tongue (Tongue Tip)
  19. Nat'eya Letters = Letters of the Tongue (Tongue Tip)
  20. Lathawiya Letters = Letters of the Tongue (Tongue Tip)
  21. Asaliya Letters = Letters of the Tongue (Tongue Tip)
  22. Syafawiya Letters = Letters of the Lips
  23. Al Khaisyum = Nasal Cavity/Ghunnah for Mim and Nun
  24. Hams vs Jahr = Basic/Must Characteristic with Opposite
  25. Shiddah, Tawasot vs Rakhawa = Basic/Must Characteristic with Opposite
  26. Estila vs Estifal = Basic/Must Characteristic with Opposite
